Abia 2027: Otti Flags Off Labour Party Campaigns
Prior to the governorship and State Assembly elections on February 6, 2027, Abia State Governor Alex Otti has called on political parties and their supporters to adopt nonviolent campaigns and issue-based engagements.
On Monday, November 2, Otti made the announcement at the Umuahia Township Stadium during the Labor Party’s campaign flag-off.
The party’s Advisory Council was also inaugurated at the event, with Ude Oko Chukwu, a former deputy governor of Abia State, serving as its chair.
The governor stressed that elections should be centered on policies and development plans and urged political players to refrain from personal attacks, intimidation, and violence in a statement posted on his X handle.
He said;
“As we begin this campaign journey, I urge all political parties, candidates and their supporters to embrace peace, civility and issue-based engagements. Elections should be about ideas, policies and the future we envision for our people, not personal attacks, intimidation or violence.
“I have also reiterated that no opposition party or its supporters should be intimidated, harassed or prevented from carrying out legitimate political activities. Public facilities must remain accessible to all political parties in accordance with established regulations.
“Our message to Abians is clear: the work of rebuilding our State must continue.
“As we look towards the February 6, 2027 election, I invite Abians to engage with our programmes, examine our record, study our manifesto and participate actively in the democratic process.”
As the 2027 election approaches, political parties and their supporters should campaign peacefully and respect one another. No campaign is worth a life; all political activities should be conducted without violence, intimidation or loss of life.
