Tems Lights Up The Stage With Stevie Wonder And John Legend At The Obama Center Grand Opening

Grammy-winning Nigerian singer Tems will perform at the Obama Presidential Center’s grand opening celebration in Chicago on June 18 alongside legendary musicians Bruce Springsteen, John Legend, Bono, and Stevie Wonder.

The Obama Foundation announced a star-studded roster for the historic event commemorating the launch of former US President Barack Obama’s presidential complex on Chicago’s South Side.

The foundation claims that the event, which will bring together world leaders, activists, and some of the biggest performers in the world, will be a celebration of democracy, culture, service, and hope. The Center’s John Lewis Plaza will host a global livestream of the event.

Tems’ inclusion further emphasizes her rising international profile for fans of Nigerian music. The multiple Grammy Award winner is still the only performer from Nigeria on the lineup and is part of a select group of international artists selected for the historic ceremony.

The Roots, Christina Aguilera, Common, Eddie Vedder, Jennifer Hudson, Marc Anthony, and U2 stars Bono and The Edge are among the other performers that the foundation has announced.

The Presidential Center is a “full circle moment” for Chicago’s South Side, according to former First Lady Michelle Obama, who said the project turns an underutilized area into a center for history, leadership, education, and community involvement.

On June 19, the Obama Presidential Center will formally open to the public. Throughout the Juneteenth weekend, festivities will take place.

When three stars come together, the result is always extraordinary. Their collective brilliance creates an unstoppable energy that captivates everyone in the room. When Tems, Stevie Wonder, and John Legend unite, it’s not just a performance—it’s a fiery showcase of talent and passion that leaves a lasting impression. Clearly, when three stars meet, it’s always pure fire.

We are not trapped or locked up in these bones. No, no. We are free to change. And love changes us. And if we can love one another, we can break open the sky.

QUOTES

Power is of two kinds. One is obtained by the fear of punishment and the other by acts of love. Power based on love is a thousand times more effective and permanent then the one derived from fear of punishment." - Mahatma Gandh
