Ring Showdown Returns: Portable Charles Okocha Scheduled For July 31 Rematch

The fourth edition of Chaos in the Ring, which is set for July 31 in Lagos, will feature a celebrity boxing rematch between actor Charles Okocha and Nigerian performer Habeeb Okikiola, better known by his stage name Portable.

This year, the two faced off for the first time, with Portable winning. Okocha, though, is optimistic about reversing the situation in the rematch.

“Portable won’t last more than two rounds in the ring,” Okocha declared on Tuesday during the official press conference held at the Balmoral Convention Centre, Sheraton Hotel, Ikeja.

Speaking at the press conference, the promoter of Chaos in the Ring, Dr. Ezekiel Adamu, said the platform was created to develop and retain world-class boxing talent in Africa.

The Federal Palace Hotel’s Balmoral Hall in Lagos will host the event.
Prior to the eagerly awaited fight, Portable and Okocha engaged in a heated exchange of words during the press conference.

“Nigeria has consistently produced world champions, but we have rarely been able to claim ownership of those champions. What we are building is a platform where Nigerian and African fighters can achieve global recognition without leaving the continent.

“Our goal is to provide the visibility these athletes deserve right here in Nigeria so young boxers can pursue successful careers from home instead of relocating abroad.”

Adamu cited internationally acclaimed fighters such as Anthony Joshua, Deontay Wilder and Fabio Wardley as examples of boxers with Nigerian heritage who built their careers outside the country.
On the challenges of organising the event, he said he viewed obstacles as opportunities for growth.

“I don’t see challenges; I see opportunities. Every edition is about building momentum rather than chasing perfection.”

He promised fans an exciting spectacle.
“This edition will deliver even more fireworks because we have two celebrity fights on the card. Nigerians should expect plenty of action and plenty of chaos.”

“The tourism opportunities and job creation we are generating are enormous. Young fighters are getting opportunities they never had before. We believe government support will eventually come, but we won’t wait for it. We’ll continue building the platform and growing the sport,” he said.

Rapper Idowest (Adekunle Idowu) will compete against musician Mr. Real (Okafor Victor) in another celebrity competition. Both men exchanged verbal jabs throughout the event, just like the main fighters.

Wishing Portable and Charles Okocha the very best as they prepare for this exciting rematch. May they showcase their skill, determination, and sportsmanship in the ring. Here’s to a thrilling fight and may the best fighter emerge victorious. Good luck to both of them!

We are not trapped or locked up in these bones. No, no. We are free to change. And love changes us. And if we can love one another, we can break open the sky.

Power is of two kinds. One is obtained by the fear of punishment and the other by acts of love. Power based on love is a thousand times more effective and permanent then the one derived from fear of punishment." - Mahatma Gandh
