Nigerian Diaspora Activist Urges Tinubu And EFCC To Clarify Investigation Suspension In High-Profile Fraud Case
Oluwasegun Elusoji, a Nigerian living in the United States, has publicly appealed to President Bola Tinubu, the EFCC leadership, and legislative authorities to transparently address the unexplained halt in an ongoing investigation involving several prominent individuals.
The petition, registered as EFCC Petition No. EFCC/PET/HQR/1656/2025, was officially submitted on April 28, 2025, through W.K. Shittu & Co., raising serious concerns over allegations of identity theft, financial fraud, and related criminal acts.
In an open letter directed to key government figures—including President Tinubu, EFCC Chairman Olanipekun Olukoyede, the Attorney-General of the Federation, and relevant parliamentary committees—Elusoji questioned why the investigation seemed to have been abruptly suspended despite initial progress.
He emphasized that the case concerns allegations against a group of individuals linked to fraudulent schemes, including Adeseye Joseph Famojuro, Ayodele Sunday Adekanmbi, Funmilayo Tosin Oyawale, and others, some of whom are reportedly connected to political figures.
Elusoji noted that he sent a follow-up reminder on June 17, 2025, which was also acknowledged by the EFCC, yet the investigation appeared to stall without any official explanation. He expressed concern over the possible influence of political connections on the case, pointing out that investigations involving powerful or well-connected persons should be free from bias and conducted with transparency.
He highlighted media reports suggesting that Adeseye Joseph Famojuro may have close ties with Seyi Makinde, the governor of Oyo State, though he acknowledged that official records do not confirm familial relationships.
Regardless of personal or political affiliations, Elusoji insisted that all allegations must be thoroughly investigated according to due process.
Furthermore, he urged President Tinubu to guarantee the independence of Nigeria’s anti-corruption agencies, ensuring they operate without undue political pressure. He also called on the Attorney-General to review how the case is being managed and to confirm that all legal and procedural requirements are being met.
Elusoji demanded a formal update from the EFCC on the status of the investigation, seeking clarity on why activities were halted and urging the agency to resume the inquiry if appropriate.
He also appealed to parliamentary oversight committees to scrutinize how such petitions are handled, especially cases involving individuals with political influence.
The petitioner emphasized that the integrity of Nigeria’s justice system depends on the equitable treatment of all cases, regardless of the individuals involved. Citizens should be able to trust that complaints are managed transparently and impartially.
Elusoji concluded by stressing the importance of upholding institutional integrity, transparency, and accountability in Nigeria’s fight against corruption, insisting that no one should be above the law.
