Dior Adiele Shares Her Story: Unspoken Secrets Of Childhood Abuse

Published on

Dior Adiele, a well-known figure in the media, has talked about some of the traumatic events that molded her early years. She has discussed alleged abuse, family difficulties, and the emotional toll they have taken on her over time.

In a recent episode of the Talk to B podcast, Adiele revealed that she had been abused by three of her uncles when she was between the ages of six and thirteen.

Despite her parents’ attempts to protect her from perceived threats outside the home, she claims that the incidents took place within the family setting.

She clarified that she and her brother had different expectations as a result of growing up in a traditional Igbo home. Because he was considered the family heir, her brother had more freedom.

She said;

“Imagine being locked in a four-bedroom flat, and the things that they thought they were protecting me from by not letting me go out to play now started to happen to me inside the house, like right under their noses. Like if they were even paying attention, they would have found out.”

“Because it wasn’t once. It wasn’t twice. It wasn’t even… It was three different, on several occasions. It wasn’t a one-time thing. From six going on seven till I was 13.”

Adiele revealed that she began smoking at the age of 13 when discussing the time that followed. She claimed that the habit persisted for a number of years until she became pregnant at the age of 20, which she described as the pivotal moment that caused her to give it up.

The media personality also discussed her brother’s childhood struggles. She said he was gifted and intelligent, but after he got back from school, she saw noticeable behavioral changes in him.

She remembered that in the end, the family took him to a professional. However, Adiele claims that because her mother thought his illness had a spiritual origin, she twice pulled him out of rehabilitation facilities and brought him to church.

“I love my parents, but I’m not going to erase their failure. I wouldn’t have come out to talk about it if they had taken accountability.”

I personally feel that parents should prioritize their children’s well-being and ensure they are well cared for. It is not enough to leave children in the care of relatives or uncles simply because of a busy schedule; instead, parents should dedicate quality time to their children. By doing so, they can understand what their children are going through emotionally and psychologically. It is important to study your children, pay attention to their feelings, and never neglect their emotional needs. Children require love, attention, and guidance just as much as they need material provision. Parents should communicate openly with their children, talk to them regularly, and work together on their issues. Building a strong relationship where children see their parents as their best friends allows parents to sense when their children are sad, worried, or distressed. When children confide in you, listen carefully and investigate their concerns instead of dismissing them. Reassure them that they can trust you with their secrets and feelings. Sometimes, defending them and correcting them gently without condemnation will encourage honesty and trust. Remember, children thrive in an environment of love, attention, and understanding—be the parent who truly cares and stays connected with your children at all times.
