CAN Announces June 14 Black Sunday Amid Rising Insecurity Concerns

Sunday, June 14, 2026, has been designated as Black Sunday by the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in remembrance of the victims of terrorist attacks throughout the nation.

Additionally, the Association announced that from June 12 to June 14, there will be a national prayer.

His Eminence, Archbishop Daniel Okoh, Chairman of CAN, stated at the conclusion of its National Church Denominational Leadership Summit 2026 that prayers are insufficient to address the nation’s security situation.

He stated that in order to combat the threat, tangible steps must be taken.

In order to put an end to the insecurity, he urged the federal government to declare a state of emergency.
In order to provide prompt solutions, Okoh also advocated for the decentralization of the security apparatus and the acceleration of state police.

Nigerians are tired of the ongoing suffering and uncertainty that has become our daily reality. For how long must we endure this pain? We yearn for a change—a real, meaningful change that will restore peace and security to our land.

Our hearts are heavy with concern for the kidnapped children and their teachers; we desperately want them to come back alive and safe. It is high time we demand stronger security measures and unwavering commitment from our leaders to protect us and ensure a brighter, safer future for all Nigerians.
