The Legacy You Leave Behind: What Will They Say When You’re Gone?
Have you ever paused for a moment and wondered: What kind of life am I truly living? What footprints am I leaving behind on this journey called life? When the time comes for me to part ways with this world—be it as a worker, a worshiper, a neighbor, or a friend—what will people say about me? Will they remember me kindly, speaking of kindness, integrity, and love? Or will they remember me with regret, sharing stories of hurt, selfishness, or neglect?
Think about it:
When you’re no longer in your place of work, what will colleagues say about your contribution?
When you leave the church community you cherish, what legacy will you leave behind?
When you move out of your neighborhood, what are the impressions you leave on your neighbors?
And when your days here are over, and you’ve gone to be with the Lord—what will be their words about your life?
Will they speak good or bad? Will they remember your kindness or your indifference?
Have you ever taken a moment to reflect on this? If not, now is the perfect time. Living a good life isn’t just about personal happiness—it’s about the impact you make on others.
If you’re living rightly, keep going—continue to do good. And if you find yourself living in a way that’s not aligned with your true purpose, I urge you: change. Change for the better. Change to leave a positive, lasting legacy.
Recently, I was given a questionnaire that made me think deeply about my own life. It made me realize how important it is to reflect on our tomorrow, our legacy, and how we’re perceived when we’re no longer here.
Remember, the way you live today shapes how you will be remembered tomorrow.
So, ask yourself: What will they say about me? And then, decide—what kind of story do you want them to tell?
Live intentionally. Love genuinely. Leave a legacy worth remembering.
