The Cost of Loving God

Published on

I remember listening to Apostle Joshua Selman as he spoke about the personal sacrifices and commitments he had made to God long before his voice reached the nations. It reminded me that there are parts of a person’s walk with God that the world may never see. People may celebrate the grace upon someone’s life without knowing the years of surrender, discipline and obedience behind it. Just as loyalty, purity, sincerity, commitment and honour matter in human relationships, they also matter in our relationship with God. David understood this when he declared that he would not offer to God anything that cost him nothing (2 Samuel 24:24). There is so much to gain in Christ, but loving God wholeheartedly comes with a cost. It requires more than what we can give; it requires who we are. There is a difference between desiring what God can give and being willing to surrender yourself completely to Him. The greatest reward of loving God is not simply what He puts into your hands, but what He makes of your life as you walk with Him.

When you surrender yourself to God, body, soul and spirit, you begin to understand what it means to belong to Him. You may not have everything the world calls success, but you have something money cannot buy: the peace of knowing that your life is in His hands. David called the Lord his shield, his glory and the One who lifts his head (Psalm 3:3). This does not mean you will never face opposition, disappointment or difficult seasons. It means that even in those moments, you are never beyond His care. God’s blessing is not always measured by the size of what you possess, but by what His presence produces within you. A little in His hands can become more than enough for the purpose He has given you. You may never build skyscrapers or possess great wealth, yet enjoy a peace, contentment and joy that many spend their lives searching for. As 1 Corinthians 2:9 reminds us, no eye has seen, no ear has heard and no human mind has imagined all that God has prepared for those who love Him.
