Spyro Reveals Heartfelt Battle With Childhood And Father’s Neglect
Nigerian musician Spyro has talked candidly about his early hardships, claiming that some of his father’s remarks made him feel unworthy and exacerbated his issues with confidence.
In a podcast interview with Nevon HQ, the singer talked about his upbringing, the pressure he experienced as a pastor’s child, and how his father’s words affected his self-perception.
He said;
“For me, it was terrible for me because my own father would usually just say some things to me, even though I think it doesn’t mean that, but he would constantly tell me that, you know, he would use some words to me.”
“There was nothing to build from because there was no positivity. You know, I was like the black sheep of the family.”
“So thinking, when I think of myself, I think of myself to be a failure already back then.”
“And when I got into secondary school, the fear was there that ‘Can I even graduate or will I even graduate (from) university? The same thing.”
“Because of this fear, I mean, from some of the things that my dad would say and the words that he would use, I kind of felt useless, you know.”
“Pastor’s kids always face this thing where there’s so much pressure on them to conform to a certain kind of lifestyle that their parents want them to live,”
“I was under so much pressure.”
Parents must recognize the profound impact their words can have on their children. What may seem like a passing comment or a moment of frustration can leave lasting scars in a child’s mind, shaping their self-esteem and future. It is essential for parents to be mindful and compassionate in their communication, understanding that their words hold the power to uplift or profoundly damage their kids. Nurturing a supportive and encouraging environment is vital for helping children grow into confident and resilient individuals.
