Law Mefor, the Anambra State Commissioner for Information and Value Reorientation, has praised Peter Obi’s performance as governor. Mefor was interviewed by Rudolf Okonkwo on the 90MinutesAfrica podcast on Thursday.
He stated that the disagreement centered on the former governor’s assertion that he left no financial obligations for succeeding administrations and that the state government’s examination of Obi’s financial records was not intended to undermine his accomplishments or presidential aspirations.
He claims that by refuting Obi’s assertion that he left no financial obligations for succeeding administrations, the state government hopes to shed light on its financial records.
“The intention of the Anambra State government is not to indict Peter Obi. Peter Obi did well as governor. There is no rift between Governor Soludo and Peter Obi. They are both in politics, and they have their interests to defend,” Mefor said.
In Nigerian politics, positions can change as quickly as the headlines—what is said today may be contradicted tomorrow. So, it wouldn’t be surprising if the government later dismisses the remarks as a mistake.
