PDP South-South Seeks National Burial, Immortalisation Of Late Orbih

PDP South-South leaders urge national burial and immortalisation for late zonal chairman Dan Orbih, citing his contributions to the party.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) South-South Zonal Working Committee has called on the national leadership of the party to immortalise its late zonal chairman, Chief Dan Osi Orbih, in recognition of his contributions to the growth and survival of the party.

The zonal committee also urged the national leadership to accord the late chairman a befitting national burial, stressing that he died while still in active service to the party.

The resolutions were contained in a communique issued Wednesday after an emergency meeting of the Zonal Working Committee and signed by the Zonal Publicity Secretary, Prince Etim Isong.

The committee acknowledged Orbih’s significant contributions to the growth, progress and stability of the PDP, describing his service to the party as worthy of recognition beyond his death.

It therefore urged the national leadership to take concrete steps to immortalise his name as a lasting tribute to his role in strengthening the party and contributing to its survival.

The committee commended the PDP national leader and Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Chief Nyesom Wike; the National Working Committee (NWC); members of the National Executive Committee (NEC); the Board of Trustees (BoT); party stakeholders and Nigerians for their support to Orbih during his lifetime and their sympathy and condolences following his death.

The emergency meeting, attended by eight of the 10 members of the Zonal Working Committee, also constituted a burial committee to coordinate arrangements for the late chairman’s funeral.

Chief Lesi Maol, a National Ex-Officio representing Rivers State, was appointed chairman of the burial committee, while High Chief George Turnah, Chairman of the PDP in Bayelsa State, was named co-chairman.

Hon. Hillary Otsu, Secretary of the Edo State PDP, will serve as secretary of the committee.

Other members include the Deputy Organising Secretary, Efere Augustin; the Zonal Publicity Secretary, Isong; the state chairmen of the PDP in Edo, Delta, Cross River and Akwa Ibom states, as well as the Acting Chairman of the Rivers State chapter, among others.

The zonal leadership said the committee would work towards ensuring a befitting burial for Orbih and coordinating the participation of party leaders and stakeholders in the funeral arrangements.

We are not trapped or locked up in these bones. No, no. We are free to change. And love changes us. And if we can love one another, we can break open the sky.

Power is of two kinds. One is obtained by the fear of punishment and the other by acts of love. Power based on love is a thousand times more effective and permanent then the one derived from fear of punishment." - Mahatma Gandh
