Oyo Hostages Rescued: Pupils And Teachers Safe And Sound
The teachers and students kidnapped in Oyo State’s Orire Local Government Area have been freed.
Bayo Onanuga, the President’s Special Advisor on Information and Strategy, revealed the development on Friday.
Onanuga merely declared that the victims’ kidnappers had freed them in a shared post on his verified X handle.
“Finally, all the kidnapped pupils and teachers in Orire, Oyo have been rescued by our security agencies,” he wrote.
He claimed that no compromise was made to the terrorists in order to secure the release of the teachers and students who had been kidnapped.
On May 15, 2026, three schools in the Esiele and Yawota communities of Oriire Local Government Area—Community Grammar School, Baptist Nursery and Primary School, and L.A. Primary School—were attacked by armed men, leading to the kidnappings.
During the attacks, at least 39 students and seven teachers—including a principal—were abducted.
We thank God for bringing them home safely and soundly. We are grateful for their safe return and rejoice that they have been reunited with their families. Our hearts are filled with gratitude and relief.
