Niniola Honors Her Late Husband With Emotional New Tribute Song

In honor of her late husband and manager, Michael Ndika, Afro-house singer Niniola Apata, better known by her stage name as Niniola, has released a new song titled “Raining (O Dun Mi).”

Months after Ndika, her longtime partner and a major figure in her music career, passed away, the singer released the song on Friday.

After her husband passed away, Niniola said the song was a very intimate expression of love, grief, memories, and healing.

The singer stated in a post on X on Thursday that although the song was inspired by her own loss, it was also meant for people who have gone through grief.

“Some songs are made to entertain. Others are born from moments that change us forever. ‘Raining (O Dun Mi)’ is my deeply personal tribute to a man who was not only my life partner, but an important part of my journey and career.”

“But this song is also for everyone who has lost someone they love — for the memories that remain, the empty spaces they leave behind, and the love that never truly goes away. Through music, I honour his memory,” she said.

On Friday, Niniola further dedicated the song to people dealing with grief.

“For everyone who has ever lost someone, this is for you. For every tear we’ve cried, every pain we’ve carried, every memory that still lingers… ‘Raining (O Dun Mi)’ is the melody to it all. It’s raining on us,” she said.

Losing your soulmate is never easy; it leaves a deep void that words cannot fully express. During this difficult time, may God’s love and guidance always be with you, providing comfort and strength as you navigate the path of healing.

We are not trapped or locked up in these bones. No, no. We are free to change. And love changes us. And if we can love one another, we can break open the sky.

QUOTES

Power is of two kinds. One is obtained by the fear of punishment and the other by acts of love. Power based on love is a thousand times more effective and permanent then the one derived from fear of punishment." - Mahatma Gandh
