Nigeria High Commission Cheers UK Passport Applicants With £50 Refund!

For those who paid the £70 administrative fee for the ongoing passport intervention process, the Nigerian High Commission in the UK has announced a £50 reimbursement.

The commission stated that the standard administrative fee of £20 would be retained by the applicants.

The announcement was made in a notice that was posted on the Nigeria High Commission’s website on Friday.

“This is to inform all passport intervention applicants that have paid £70 admin fee that £50 will be refunded to you, £20 being the standard admin fee,” the notice read.

This development follows complaints about charges and challenges Nigerians faced during the UK’s special passport intervention exercise.

The Federal Government stated on September 8 that applicants were only required to pay the official passport fees, excluding any applicable bank charges, and rejected the introduction of additional fees for the exercise.

On September 11, the NIS subsequently declared that participation in the intervention exercise was free of additional fees.

Due to a high number of applications, the passport intervention exercise, which was originally set to conclude on September 19, has been extended to October 3 in London and Manchester.

Within the first four days of the exercise, 1,477 Nigerians were successfully processed and enrolled, and more than half of the passports had already been produced and sent, according to the NIS.

Additionally, PUNCH reported on Saturday that the Manchester intervention center’s exercise had been disrupted by technical issues, and applicants had complained about delays and uncertainty regarding fees and procedures.

We commend the Nigeria High Commission for their transparency and commitment to fair treatment by refunding the £50 to UK passport applicants. Such openness fosters trust and demonstrates their dedication to providing quality service. We are pleased to see this positive step towards accountability and customer care.

Power is of two kinds. One is obtained by the fear of punishment and the other by acts of love. Power based on love is a thousand times more effective and permanent then the one derived from fear of punishment." - Mahatma Gandh
