NDLEA Alerts Nigerians To Beware Of Accepting International Consignments

Following a growing trend of illegal drugs being hidden in consolidated cargoes, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has cautioned Nigerians against accepting shipments from friends and family overseas without fully understanding the contents.

Femi Babafemi, the NDLEA’s Director of Media and Advocacy, posted the warning on his official X handle on Sunday.

According to Babafemi, some Nigerians residing overseas are allegedly sending consolidated shipments of illegal drugs—specifically, cannabis strains known as Colorado and Loud—to their relatives and friends back home.

He claims that unwary recipients are being listed as consignees or recipients of the shipments, which could lead to their arrest and legal action.

“Some of our ‘abroad’ people are sending home consolidated cargoes contaminated with illicit drugs especially Colorado and Loud, putting their family members and friends as consignees or recipients,” Babafemi said.

“The warning here is, if you’re not part of the syndicate, don’t accept to receive consignments on behalf of your ‘abroad’ brother or sister or friend particularly if you don’t know the full content of the consignment.”

“Many are already behind bars for this and the number keeps increasing with daily operations by NDLEA officers.”

“Please heed this warning and save yourself of the jail experience.”

Nigerians are advised to exercise caution when accepting international consignments, especially from individuals they do not know very well abroad. If you are not certain about the person and their intentions, it is safest not to accept packages or items from them, as you may unknowingly become involved in illegal activities or expose yourself to danger. Only when you have a strong relationship and full trust in the person should you consider accepting items from them to bring into Nigeria. Your safety and security depend on your vigilance and careful judgment.

Power is of two kinds. One is obtained by the fear of punishment and the other by acts of love. Power based on love is a thousand times more effective and permanent then the one derived from fear of punishment." - Mahatma Gandh
