Popular Nigerian media personality Toke Makinwa has come under criticism on social media over the outfit she wore to the Service of Songs held in honour of late Nollywood actor Alexx Ekubo.

The Service of Songs took place on Wednesday, June 10, 2026, at the Monarch Event Centre in Lekki, Lagos, and was attended by several prominent figures in the Nigerian entertainment industry, alongside family members and close friends of the deceased actor.

Guests were dressed in white attire as a symbol of respect and celebration of the late actor’s life. However, Toke Makinwa’s appearance at the event sparked mixed reactions online, with some social media users expressing displeasure over her choice of outfit.

The mother of one was seen wearing a white shirt that was partially unbuttoned, exposing part of her cleavage, a fashion choice that drew criticism from some observers who felt it was inappropriate for the solemn occasion.

During an interview at the event, Toke Makinwa described Alexx Ekubo as a fun-loving person and revealed that they shared a close friendship in the past. She spoke warmly about the late actor, recalling fond memories and highlighting his vibrant personality.

Recall that Alexx Ekubo passed away on May 11, 2026, at Evercare Hospital, Lekki, following complications related to advanced metastatic kidney cancer.

Following the Service of Songs, the actor’s family released details of his funeral arrangements. According to the announcement, the wake-keep and burial ceremonies will take place in Arochukwu, Abia State, on June 17 and 18, 2026, respectively, with a reception scheduled afterwards.

As reactions continue to trail the event, discussions online have largely centered on celebrity appearances and tributes paid in honour of the late actor.
