Military Exonerates Suspected Foreign Terrorists Arrested During Operation

Military exonerates foreign national arrested in Operation Hadin Kai, finds no terrorist links

The military has cleared a foreign national who was arrested during an exploitation operation by troops of Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK), confirming that investigations found no evidence linking him to any terrorist group.

The clarification followed media reports published on 14 July 2026 concerning an individual intercepted by troops of 68 Battalion during an exploitation operation after the terrorist attack at Cross Kauwa.

In a statement, the Acting Military Information Officer of Joint Task Force North East, Operation Hadin Kai, Captain Mohammed Goni, identified the individual as Aboubakar Muhammad Zein-Nur, also known as Houdairi.

According to the statement, the suspect was taken into custody in line with established operational procedures, given the prevailing security situation and the frequent use of border corridors by terrorist elements for movement and logistics.

“In view of the prevailing security environment and the exploitation of border corridors by terrorist elements for movement and logistics, troops acted in accordance with established operational procedures by taking him into custody for profiling and further investigation,” the statement said.

Captain Goni disclosed that comprehensive intelligence assessments and other investigative processes did not establish any affiliation between the individual and any known terrorist organisation.

He added that investigations confirmed that Zein-Nur is a resident of Shattu Anguba Village in Bosso, Republic of Niger, where he engages in camel rearing beyond the River Komadougou.

Consequently, Operation Hadin Kai formally exonerated the individual of any terrorist links.

The Theatre Command reiterated that all persons intercepted under suspicious circumstances during military operations are subjected to due process and thorough security screening to ensure that innocent civilians are distinguished from terrorist elements.

Operation Hadin Kai also reaffirmed its commitment to denying terrorists freedom of action while upholding the highest standards of professionalism, respect for human rights and adherence to the rule of law.
