INEC Launches Voter Registration Drive In Plateau

Published on

In advance of the 2027 general elections, the Independent National Electoral Commission, or INEC, will begin displaying the preliminary voter register throughout Plateau State on Friday, October 9.

Additionally, registered voters will be able to pick up their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) and make claims and objections during the exercise.

Voters can review their information and voice concerns on the display prior to the final register being assembled.

Additionally, it is anticipated to assist in locating mistakes or missing data in voter records.

Prof. Sam Egwu, the state’s resident electoral commissioner, made this announcement in a statement on Thursday in Jos.

According to him, the exercise complies with Section 19(1) of the Electoral Act 2026, which mandates that the register be made public at least ninety days prior to a general election.

He claims that all 207 Registration Areas in the state will participate in the display, hearing of claims and objections, and PVC collection.

It runs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. every day for seven days, including weekends, from October 9 to October 15, 2026.

Since an accurate register is essential to free and credible elections, Egwu urged registered voters to verify their names, photos, dates of birth, polling places, and other details and make any necessary corrections during this time.

PVCs from the first round of the Continuous Voter Registration, which took place between August 18 and December 10, 2025, will also be available for pickup, he continued.

As the 2027 elections approach, residents are encouraged to register and obtain their Permanent Voter Cards. Your voter’s card is your power to choose the leaders you believe will best represent you—make sure your voice counts.
