Imole Campaign Council Alleges Planned Arrests Ahead Of Osun Governorship Election

Imole Campaign Council alleges planned arrests of opposition figures and raises concerns over the security situation before Osun election.

The Imole Campaign Council  has alerted the nation and the international community on the unsettled political climate in the state.

The Council also notified the Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Tunji Disu, and the highest echelon of Nigeria’s security apparatus for the arrest of 46 leaders of the Accord party and prominent opposition figures penned down “for systematic, unlawful arrests in the days leading up to the election by All Progressive Congress party in the state.”

Speaking at a press conference, the Deputy Director-General of the Imole Campaign Council, Alimi Kolapo, who doubled as commissioner for Information and enlightenment, noted that even more alarming were the credible security reports reaching the leadership of the Imole Campaign Council regarding a coordinated “hit list” drawn up by political opponents in collusion with compromised security operatives.

“We have confirmed information that the  46 individuals have been marked for arbitrary arrest, harassment, and forcible transfer to Abuja to keep them out of circulation during the election,” he said.

Kolapo stressed that the APC and its desperate agents were using the police force not as a shield for the public, but as a weapon of oppression against opposition political figures.

The Council equally demanded the immediate, unconditional release of one. Taofeek Akinyemi, or that he be charged to a court of competent jurisdiction if there was any legitimate allegation against him, which he claimed there was none.

We are not trapped or locked up in these bones. No, no. We are free to change. And love changes us. And if we can love one another, we can break open the sky.

Power is of two kinds. One is obtained by the fear of punishment and the other by acts of love. Power based on love is a thousand times more effective and permanent then the one derived from fear of punishment." - Mahatma Gandh
