Former Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has strongly defended Kylian Mbappe, claiming the forward has been unfairly transformed into a “scapegoat” during a turbulent second season at Real Madrid.
The legendary coach believes the striker is bearing the brunt of the blame for an underperforming, average Madrid side that currently boasts far fewer world-class talents than the legendary squads of its past.
“Football is such that you always need a scapegoat. He’s become that,” Wenger noted.
Despite facing heavy criticism and reports of dressing room tension, the 27-year-old forward has still managed to score 42 goals across all competitions.
Wenger expects the French captain to completely reverse his fortunes and explode back into form at the upcoming World Cup in North America.
“Kylian has everything it takes to have a great World Cup. He’s physically fresh, he’s not overworked,”
According to media analysis of Wenger’s comments, Mbappe’s recent injury spells and reduced minutes at the club level will serve as a massive physical advantage for Les Bleus.
While rival international stars will arrive at the tournament completely exhausted after grueling 60-match club seasons, Mbappe remains fresh, rested, and physically prepared to handle the intensity of the competition.
Looking ahead to the tournament, Wenger confidently positions France as the outright favorites to lift a third world crown.
“I put them above the others. France have so much talent and Deschamps has experience,” Wenger noted, adding that the team’s sheer athleticism inevitably wears opponents down in the final minutes of a match.
France is scheduled to begin their World Cup campaign against Senegal at MetLife Stadium, before completing their Group I fixtures against Iraq and Norway.
