Breaking Records: Nworgu Makes Nigeria’s History With First Gold At 2026 Commonwealth Games

In the women’s lightweight para powerlifting competition, Esther Nworgu led Team Nigeria to an unforgettable one-two finish and won Nigeria’s first gold medal of the 2026 Commonwealth Games.
Nigeria won its first gold medal at the Games thanks to Nworgu’s best lift of 123 kg, which earned him 119 points.

Her triumph completed the nation’s para powerlifting team’s outstanding performance. Esther Oyema, a fellow countryman, won the silver medal with a best lift of 125 kg, earning 115.5 points.

Olivia Broome of England, who lifted 119 kg to earn 106.6 points, was awarded bronze.
