Ademola Lookman Seals Atletico Madrid’s 2-0 Win Over Wasteful Man United

Ademola Lookman scores as Atletico Madrid beat Manchester United 2-0 in the Champions League, deepening pressure on Michael Carrick after another defeat.

Manchester United suffered another setback as Atletico Madrid secured a 2-0 Champions League victory over Michael Carrick’s side in Spain.

Pablo Barrios gave Atletico the perfect start, firing the hosts ahead inside the opening minute.

Diego Simeone’s side appeared to have doubled their lead shortly before half-time when Johnny Cardoso scored from the edge of the box. However, a VAR review ruled out the goal for handball in the build-up.

United’s hopes of recovering from the deficit suffered another blow midway through the second half when Leny Yoro was sent off following a VAR review for denying Jonathan David a goalscoring opportunity.

Atletico capitalised on their numerical advantage when Ademola Lookman sealed the victory. The Nigerian forward tapped home from close range after United goalkeeper Senne Lammens had denied David.

The result adds to the pressure on Carrick following Manchester United’s difficult start to the season. His side again struggled to convert promising spells into goals, while Atletico took their chances to secure all three points.
