Actress Jaiye Kuti Expresses Concern Over Waning Unity In Nollywood

Actress Jaiye Kuti has expressed concern about the Nigerian film industry’s perceived lack of unity, claiming that professionals no longer help one another out when things get hard.

Speaking on the Oyinmomo podcast, Kuti pointed out that many actors and filmmakers face comparable difficulties but would rather remain silent than speak up or unite.

According to her, the trend has an impact on industry relationships and makes cooperation more challenging.

She said, “Our relationship is gradually breaking down… Everybody is just acting like it’s okay. How is it okay? The people you’re emulating and looking at as an example, do you really want to know them? The people you call celebrities and follow on social media.

“Not one actor stood by me or went those cinemas or even supported me, despite the fact that we’re all going through the same thing.

“But If I celebrate my birthday, the next day they’d wish me a happy birthday. So I stopped wishing people a happy birthday because I don’t want anyone to wish me on my birthday. Please don’t.”

Unity is the cornerstone of success in any organization. When members work together harmoniously, they can overcome challenges, innovate, and achieve common goals more effectively. Conversely, a lack of unity can lead to discord, inefficiency, and eventual collapse of the system. It is essential for everyone to recognize the importance of unity and foster a spirit of collaboration to ensure sustained growth and stability.

Without it, even the most promising organizations risk disintegration and failure.

We are not trapped or locked up in these bones. No, no. We are free to change. And love changes us. And if we can love one another, we can break open the sky.

QUOTES

Power is of two kinds. One is obtained by the fear of punishment and the other by acts of love. Power based on love is a thousand times more effective and permanent then the one derived from fear of punishment." - Mahatma Gandh
