You Won’t Believe What Media Personality Izzy Ogbeide Said About Her Kids

After sharing an unapologetically honest viewpoint on motherhood, marriage, and personal fulfillment in a TikTok video that has sharply divided opinions across social media platforms, Nigerian media personality Izzy Ogbeide sparked a heated online debate.

In the widely shared video, Ogbeide questioned one of society’s most ingrained presumptions—that marriage and having children are a woman’s greatest accomplishment—by claiming that her most significant life experiences had nothing to do with either.

“If I am to count the best thing I have in my life and the best decision I have taken in my life, getting married and having kids isn’t the best thing that has happened to my life.”

“Removing myself from Italy is in the list, claiming asylum in the US is in the list, saving my father from dying from cancer is in the list. But my kids are never the best thing that has ever happened to me.”

“I am the best thing that has ever happened to my life. My children are not the center of my life, they are not my happiness, my husband is not my joy — instead they are work I used my hand to put on myself and even debt.”

“Kids are responsibilities. They are not blessings, they are not roses, they are not fairies, they are even an investment. I take full responsibility of my children so I even blame myself for anything they do.”

Hmmm! Different people have different opinions, and that’s okay. We shouldn’t be quick to judge her; it’s simply her perspective. Let’s respect her viewpoint and understand that everyone has their own way of looking at things. After all, diversity of thought is what makes conversations interesting.

QUOTES

Power is of two kinds. One is obtained by the fear of punishment and the other by acts of love. Power based on love is a thousand times more effective and permanent then the one derived from fear of punishment." - Mahatma Gandh
