Yinka Alaseyori Breaks Silence With Apology Amid Criticism Over Oyo Kidnapping Controversy

Yinka Alaseyori, a gospel singer, has addressed the criticism that followed her recent comments regarding the kidnapping of students and teachers in Oyo State.

The singer had previously come under fire for implying that spiritual influences might be interfering with security forces’ attempts to free the abducted victims. Her remarks were made in the midst of a general outcry over the kidnapping of teachers and students in the state’s Oriire Local Government Area.

Following the outcry, some Nigerians accused her of seeming to defend or justify government institutions during a period when families were anxiously awaiting word on the whereabouts of their loved ones.

She explained;

“I did a video two days ago about the kidnapped children, touching on government, parastatals and every agency. But when I woke up yesterday, I found out that some well-meaning Nigerians were not happy about it, as I made them feel their voices are unheard.”

She maintained that it was never her intention to diminish anyone’s experience or pain.

Addressing mothers and relatives of the abducted victims directly, she offered an apology and asked for forgiveness.

“You know me too well that I would never make you feel like that. Mothers, do not be offended. I am sorry. I beg in God’s name. Please, forgive me. I would never think like that. Pardon and forgive me,” she said.
