Wike Brands Obi Too Stingy For Aso Rock

Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), has been called stingy and unfit to lead Nigeria by Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike.

Wike questioned Obi’s leadership abilities and made fun of him for carrying his own bags during a town hall meeting with stakeholders in Rivers State’s Bonny Local Government Area.

The minister contended that rather than having to carry his personal belongings himself, a former governor who wants to lead Nigeria should be allowed to hire a personal assistant.

Wike said;

“As a former governor, you cannot be stingy not to have employed a personal assistant who will carry your bag. You want to show you carry your bag. We don’t want such a stingy person as a president.

“People should look at what the current governor, Chukwuma Soludo, is doing and compare it with what Obi did when he was governor of Anambra State.”

Nigerian politics never ceases to amaze me. Wike’s claim has sparked a bigger question: Is Peter Obi really stingy, or is this simply political rhetoric? And does being frugal make someone unfit to lead a country? What qualities should Nigerians expect from a president? This is a topic worth discussing, so please share your views in the comments. Let’s have a thoughtful conversation.

We are not trapped or locked up in these bones. No, no. We are free to change. And love changes us. And if we can love one another, we can break open the sky.

QUOTES

Power is of two kinds. One is obtained by the fear of punishment and the other by acts of love. Power based on love is a thousand times more effective and permanent then the one derived from fear of punishment." - Mahatma Gandh
