Why Losing A Friend Can Hurt More Than Losing A Partner — Mayorkun
Mayorkun, an Afrobeats musician, has talked about why losing a friend can be more painful than ending a romantic relationship.
The “Let Me Know” singer stated on the In My Opinion podcast that friendships require a greater emotional commitment because romance and s*xual attraction cannot keep them going.
According to him, friendships are based solely on sincere affection and companionship, whereas romantic relationships frequently have a s*xual component that unites partners.
“Friendship breakups are harder than relationship breakups because you invest more into friendship,” he said.
“You are not really getting anything from friendship apart from maybe companionship and all. But in a relationship, there is still a small sexual something inside. In friendship, you must like that person before they become your friend.”
“So, if the thing ends, don’t worry, you will get a new girlfriend before you get a new friend,” he said.
“A friendship breakup makes it hard to want to go into another friendship with someone, except you are the type that calls everyone your friend.”
It’s truly sad when a friend you trusted so deeply ends up breaking your heart and disappointing you. The pain hits differently because they weren’t just someone in your life they had become part of it. Losing that closeness can feel like losing a piece of yourself.
