The Nigeria Police Force has been asked by the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) to present proof that it is involved in a purported plan to reinstate Monday sit-at-home orders throughout the Southeast.
According to the group, neither the Eastern Security Network (ESN) nor its members have been instructed to implement any sit-at-home orders since October 12, 2026.
According to Naija News, IPOB’s stance was prompted by reports of a police intelligence document dated October 9, 2026, which purportedly raised concerns about a potential return of sit-at-home enforcement in the area.
Emma Powerful, the group’s media and publicity secretary, refuted the accusation in a statement released on Monday, stating that the organization’s stance on the matter had not altered.
“There is no voice note. There is no order from IPOB or ESN to resume any sit-at-home. There is no plan by this movement to enforce anything on the people of the South-East or Imo State,” the statement said.
The group demanded that the police produce verifiable evidence, such as proof that the purported message came from IPOB or ESN, to back up the allegations in the reported intelligence document.
The group added that its actions continued to be concentrated on achieving its declared objective of peaceful Biafran self-determination.
It reaffirmed its intention to abstain from the upcoming elections.
As of the time this report was filed, the police had not responded to the statement or the accusations related to the reported intelligence document.
If the police maintain that the Monday sit-at-home is set to resume, they should provide credible evidence to support the claim. Clear, verifiable information would help the public understand the situation and avoid unnecessary fear or confusion.
