Tope Alabi threatens legal action against Pastor Tayo Kumuyi over allegations linking her to Toluwanisings’ death and other gospel ministers.
Gospel singer Tope Alabi has given Canada-based pastor Tayo Kumuyi 24 hours to retract allegations linking her to the death of fellow gospel singer Toluwanisings and other gospel ministers.
In a cease-and-desist letter dated October 24, 2026, Alabi’s lawyers, Oakmount Legal Practitioners, demanded that Kumuyi remove the posts, retract the claims and issue a public apology.
The letter, signed by Toluwanimi Okunade, accused Kumuyi, who operates the Facebook page Pastor Tayo Ministries, of publishing posts between October 20 and 24 alleging that Alabi was involved in murder and ritual killings linked to Toluwanisings and other gospel ministers.
The lawyers described the allegations as false and unsupported by evidence.
They said Alabi had publicly and privately mourned Toluwanisings and had no involvement in his death or the death of anyone else.
The solicitors also argued that presenting the allegations as spiritual messages would not shield Kumuyi from legal liability. They added that his residence in Canada would not prevent legal action over posts that reached a Nigerian audience.
The letter cited a later post on the Facebook page that carried a message directed at Alabi: “Tope Alabi, no letter will save you from my hand.”
Her lawyers said the post would be used as evidence.
They warned that failure to comply within 24 hours would lead Alabi to seek a court injunction, damages and legal costs. They also threatened to report the matter to Meta Platforms and law enforcement agencies.
The lawyers demanded that Kumuyi publish a public apology and pin it to his Facebook page for 14 days.
Alabi shared the letter on Instagram on October 24 and tagged the Nigerian Police Force.
At the time of reporting, Pastor Tayo Ministries had not visibly responded, and there was no confirmation that a lawsuit had been filed.
Toluwanisings, whose real name was Olayemi Bayonile Bolaji, died in the early hours of October 14, 2026, aged 41.
His family did not disclose a cause of death, and none had been officially announced. His personal assistant said the singer slumped at his home in Ibadan and was taken to several hospitals.
Alabi described his death as a “big shock” at the time.
Kumuyi had not publicly responded to the allegations at the time of filing.
