Teslim Balogun Stadium Gets New Pitch
The Teslim Balogun Stadium in Surulere, Lagos, has received a new natural grass football pitch as part of ongoing rehabilitation work at the facility.
The Lagos State Government completed the pitch ahead of the inaugural National Intermediate Sports Festival, EKO 2026, scheduled to hold from October 1 to 15, with the stadium among the facilities being prepared for the event.
Footage from the stadium shows the former artificial playing surface replaced with a lush green natural grass pitch, alongside newly installed spectator seats.
Speaking during an inspection of the rehabilitation works in August, Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu said, “The natural grass pitch is complete, while work on the new tartan track will be finished in the coming weeks.”
He also said indoor halls, swimming pools and other facilities were being upgraded ahead of the National Intermediate Sports Festival.
The stadium’s rehabilitation comes as Lagos prepares to host the maiden edition of the National Intermediate Games, which will bring young athletes from across Nigeria to the state.
Work on other sections of the stadium, including the athletics track and additional facilities, is continuing as preparations for the games progress.Ademide Adebayo
