The reality TV star Tacha Akide has urged Big Brother Naija (BBNaija) organizers to take a break and rethink their approach in order to attract more viewers.
In an interview with Arise TV, she stated that the reality show must change to reflect the evolving entertainment landscape, especially the increasing impact of social media.
“I think they need to take a break, restrategise and just come up with something because we are really at an era where everything happens on social media,” she said.
“You don’t want us watching housemates in the house, meanwhile P-Square is giving us part seven of his family issues… we have come to a point where everyone is so comfortable with social media right now.”
Akide said the show’s popularity during its earlier seasons was partly shaped by a different social media landscape, adding that the organisers need to introduce more engaging concepts to retain viewers’ interest.
“At the time when the show was really hitting, it was different, and now it’s different. Social media wasn’t what it was then,” she said.
“They need to try to do something different which would be much more mind-blowing and more interesting to Nigerians because Nigerians are hard to please.”
I think I understand where Tacha is coming from. Gone are the days when viewers eagerly tuned in to BBNaija, excited to see what would happen next. The suspense, drama and unpredictable moments kept everyone talking. These days, however, the show doesn’t feel as captivating as it once did, and people seem less eager to watch. BBNaija may need to step up its game and introduce fresh, engaging ideas to win viewers’ interest back.
