Sweden, Finland Scramble Fighter Jets To Identify Russian Aircraft Over Gulf Of Finland

Sweden and Finland scrambled fighter jets to identify Russian military aircraft operating in international airspace over the Gulf of Finland Thursday.

Swedish and Finnish fighter jets were scrambled on Thursday to monitor and identify Russian military aircraft flying through international airspace over the Gulf of Finland, the Finnish Air Force said.

The operation was carried out under a joint Finnish-Swedish framework established to monitor and safeguard the airspace surrounding the two countries.

During the mission, the Finnish and Swedish air forces detected and tracked a group of Russian aircraft, including a transport aircraft and several fighter jets.

The Finnish Air Force said the Russian aircraft were operating in international airspace when the Swedish and Finnish fighter jets were deployed to identify them.

The operation highlights the close cooperation between the two countries’ air forces in monitoring air activity and responding to potential security concerns in the region.
