Sports: England Beat Norway in Extra Time to Reach World Cup Semi-Finals

Published on

England have secured a place in the semi-finals of the 2026 FIFA World Cup after defeating Norway 2-1 following extra time in a dramatic quarter-final match in Miami.

Norway made the stronger start and took the lead in the 36th minute through Andreas Schjelderup, whose finish rewarded his side’s impressive opening performance.

England responded by increasing the pressure on the Norwegian defence. Their persistence paid off shortly before half-time when Jude Bellingham found the net to restore parity.

Both teams created chances after the break, but neither could produce a decisive goal during normal time, sending the contest into extra time.

Bellingham struck again three minutes into the additional period after capitalising on a mistake by the Norwegian goalkeeper. England then defended their narrow advantage to complete a hard-fought victory and end Norway’s impressive World Cup campaign.

The result sends England into another major tournament semi-final, with Bellingham emerging as the hero after scoring both of his country’s goals.

England will now face defending champions Argentina, who defeated Switzerland 3-1 after extra time in their quarter-final encounter.

European champions Spain will meet France in the other semi-final as the four remaining teams battle for places in the World Cup final
