Soludo Unveils Chinua Achebe’s Statue And Champions The Next Wave Of Literary Giants
The influence of Nigeria’s greatest literary icon, Chinua Achebe, endures thirteen years after his death. Anambra State Governor Chukwuma Soludo unveiled a statue of the legend at Ugwunwasike Roundabout, Ogidi, in the Idemili North Local Government Area, as a new homage to his memory.
Soludo called the late author a global symbol of excellence whose legacy continues to inspire generations during the Saturday event.
Speaking at the unveiling, Governor Soludo stated that Achebe’s remarkable contributions to African literature and culture brought him international recognition. He also stated that his administration is dedicated to upholding the renowned novelist’s legacy while fostering an environment that will generate more literary talent from Anambra and beyond.

“Achebe represents excellence and remains one of the world’s greatest literary figures. We will continue to support initiatives that inspire the emergence of more Achebes in Idemili North and Anambra State.”
Government officials, traditional leaders, community leaders, and literary enthusiasts attended the event. Stanley Nkwoka, the mayor of Idemili North Local Government Area, described Achebe and Governor Soludo as world-class individuals whose accomplishments have honored Anambra State.
Achebe, who is recognized as the founder of contemporary African literature, won praise from readers all over the world for his 1958 masterpiece Things Fall Apart, which has been translated into numerous languages and studied all over the world.
In addition to promoting cultural heritage and literary tourism in Ogidi, the late literary icon’s hometown, the monument’s unveiling is anticipated to further preserve his legacy.
After a brief illness, Achebe passed away in Boston, Massachusetts, on March 21, 2013, at the age of 82.
