The House of Representatives’ Ad-hoc Committee investigating the Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council (PFIPC) has directed the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, to produce the Director-General of the agency, Adeniyi Adeyemi, within 48 hours.
The directive was issued on Monday during the committee’s resumed meeting as lawmakers stepped up their investigation into the council’s operations, which the committee has called an alleged fraudulent organization.
According to the committee, Adeyemi’s appearance was required so that lawmakers could get firsthand information and further their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the PFIPC’s founding and operations.
The troubled Director-General was ordered by lawmakers to appear before the panel on Wednesday in order to respond to inquiries about the ongoing investigation.
For a few months now, the PFIPC’s existence as a Federal Government agency has caused a lot of controversy. The Director General of the organization has accused the President’s Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, of corruption regarding the agency’s budgetary allocation.
The President ordered the Independent Corrupt and Other Related Offenses Commission to look into the escalating controversy and report back to him within 30 days as a result of the controversy.
Following the issuance of a bench warrant by the Federal High Court in Abuja for forgery and impersonation by the Police, the agency’s Director General, who was in hiding, was apprehended somewhere in Osun State.
