First Lady Oluremi Tinubu has commissioned a ₦1 billion Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Digital Experience Centre at the University of Cross River State (UNICROSS), Calabar, providing students with free access to laptops, desktop computers and other digital resources.

The facility was delivered through the Renewed Hope Initiative in partnership with the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) to expand access to digital tools, particularly for students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds who may be unable to afford personal devices.

Speaking at the commissioning ceremony held over the weekend at the university’s main campus in Calabar, Senator Tinubu said the centre would provide students with uninterrupted opportunities to learn, create and develop digital skills without being constrained by the cost of devices or unstable electricity supply.

She said the project forms part of a nationwide initiative targeting tertiary institutions across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones, with selected institutions serving as beneficiaries in the pilot phase.

Other institutions included in the initiative are Ekiti State University; Federal Polytechnic, Oko, Anambra State; Kaduna State University; Kwara State University; and Taraba State University, among others.

This is a very commendable initiative, and we sincerely hope that the students will make the most of this opportunity by utilizing the ICT Digital Experience Center effectively. Such facilities can significantly enhance their learning and skill development, paving the way for a brighter future.
