Two Nigerians have been appointed by Pope Leo to important roles in the Vatican’s Dicastery for Evangelization.
The appointments were made along with those of three other African Catholic leaders, according to Fides News Agency.
One of the main Vatican departments in charge of missionary work and the founding of new local churches is the Dicastery for Evangelization (Section for First Evangelization and New Particular Churches), to which Archbishop Alfred Adewale Martins of Lagos was appointed.
Father Wenceslaus C. Madu, C.M.F., Vice-Chancellor of the Claretian University of Nigeria, Nekede, has also been appointed as a consultant of the same Dicastery.
Other African appointees as members of the Dicastery are Cardinal Fridolin Ambongo Besungu, OFM Cap, Archbishop of Kinshasa in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and Archbishop Andrew Nkea Fuanya of Bamenda, Cameroon.
Archbishop François Sylla of Conakry, Guinea, was also appointed as a consultor.
Congratulations to the newly appointed Vatican officials on this well-deserved recognition. Your dedication and hard work have paved the way for this remarkable achievement, and we wish you success as you carry out your important roles in advancing the Church’s mission.
May your leadership inspire positive change and bring honor to Nigeria on the global stage
