Peter Obi Drops Surprising Hint On Future Presidential Ambitions After 2027

The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has stated that he is unlikely to run for president following the general election in 2027.

The former governor of Anambra State stated in an interview with media personality Rufai Oseni that his choice is related to Nigeria’s unofficial zoning system, which alternates the presidency between the North and the South.

“For me, it depends on what happens. I don’t want to say it because people might think that I’m saying it because of some people.”

“I said because if I don’t run now, by the next time it comes, believing in the zoning formula, it will go to the North,” he said.

“If it goes North in 2031, by the time it comes again to the South, I will be 78 years old, and I don’t think I would be doing this at that age.”
He said he could only consider another presidential bid if the presidency remained in the South in 2031, but stressed that such a scenario is unlikely.

“If it’s still in the South in the next election, maybe, but the probability is very slim. I don’t know until after the 2027 election,” he said.

In light of these considerations, it is perhaps best for the current leaders and aspirants to step back and allow the younger generation to take the reins. Resting and passing the baton can pave the way for fresh ideas, new energy, and innovative solutions that are vital for the country’s progress.

Embracing this transition with humility and foresight will ensure a brighter future for Nigeria

We are not trapped or locked up in these bones. No, no. We are free to change. And love changes us. And if we can love one another, we can break open the sky.

Power is of two kinds. One is obtained by the fear of punishment and the other by acts of love. Power based on love is a thousand times more effective and permanent then the one derived from fear of punishment." - Mahatma Gandh
