Pastor Yemi Davids of Nigeria has drawn criticism for remarks he made regarding modesty and public attire, advising women to pay closer attention to their appearance before going out.
He said that in order to avoid looking indecent, people should take the time to thoroughly examine themselves before leaving the house.
In his words:
“We should not be seeing the lines of your panties, it’s not right. You check yourself before leaving your house.”
“I’m appalled to see somebody come to church, everything is tight, the top is to your waist and everything and people at the back are seeing everything. It’s not okay. What you are willing to show makes it appear like what you are willing to share.”
“It brings you in one light, and sometimes when a man sees a woman revealing everything, it may even affect him approaching you for marriage. It (makes you) look like a public thing because everybody in the public (can see) your pants. Don’t expose your private (parts). Don’t do that.”
“If you are coming to church, dress decently. When I’m in service, I’m always seeing the altar, the stage. When I sat in the congregation, I saw unspeakable things. I think I need to address it as a father,” he said.
Pastor Yemi Davids’s message is very correct; practicing modesty in dressing is highly beneficial. It reflects respect for oneself and others and promotes a positive image. Ladies are encouraged to dress well and appropriately, showing dignity and self-respect in their appearance. Embracing modesty is indeed a admirable choice that contributes to personal and societal harmony.
