The All Progressives Congress (APC) chapter in Osun State claims that it was not informed of the State Presidential Campaign Committee’s inauguration for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s reelection prior to the January 16, 2027 presidential election, which will be organized by Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke.
Sooko Tajudeen Lawal, the APC State Chairman, stated in a statement that while the party views President Tinubu’s reelection as a shared responsibility and has been diligently pursuing the goal through a variety of means, the exercise should be carefully organized and coordinated.
Lawal reaffirmed that the party was not aware of any planned inauguration until Governor Adeleke’s spokesperson, Malam Olawale Rasheed, posted the names of some committee members on social media on Wednesday.
He said the development came as a surprise to the party’s leaders, members and supporters.
“Aside from the fact that not every piece of information on social media should be taken as genuine, less than 12 hours’ notice is too short, as many people who would have attended may already have been excluded,” he said.
“We are talking about the re-election of the President of the country under the largest political party in sub-Saharan Africa, not the election of a local government chairman or councillor. This is why the exercise should be approached with the highest level of official protocol required to ensure its success.”
The party claimed that the State Presidential Campaign Committee’s current setup seemed intended to cause needless confusion between the APC and the designated state campaign coordinator.
However, the party emphasized that it was not against making compromises in order to secure President Tinubu’s reelection, stressing that the procedure must be handled correctly in order to produce the intended outcomes.
It also conveyed optimism that the political parties’ combined efforts and contributions, along with Governor Adeleke’s appointment as coordinator of the President’s reelection campaign in Osun State, could enhance the President’s chances of winning.
Osun State APC members are likely to be displeased that their political rival, Governor Ademola Adeleke, has become part of Tinubu’s campaign team. However, Tinubu’s decision may be a strategic one: Adeleke has significant influence in the state, where Tinubu did not win in the last presidential election. By bringing Adeleke into the campaign group, Tinubu may be seeking to strengthen his support in Osun. In that sense, the move could reflect a calculated effort to build a stronger political alliance.
