Ademola Adeleke, the governor of Osun State, stated on Monday that he is confident in his ability to win reelection and that he is not under any pressure ahead of the August 15 election.
The Osun State Joint Labour Movement organized a town hall meeting with Osun State workers, where Adeleke made the statements.
The governor claimed that because God and the Osun people supported him, he was able to maintain his confidence.
“I’m not under pressure because I have God on my side. I have God on the side of the people of Osun. I’m very prepared.”
“What I’m going to tell them is that they should not be afraid. This is a democracy, and Nigeria has chosen to practise democracy. They should not be afraid, despite all the intimidation that the Osun APC has allegedly been carrying out, including the killing of people and other acts.”
“I’m telling them and showing them that democracy and the will of God shall prevail. They should come out on August 15 and vote. That is their civic duty.”
Earlier, the Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in Osun State, Christopher Arapasopo, said the Adeleke administration had prioritised workers’ welfare, earning the support of organised labour ahead of the governorship poll.
“No one is born to suffer. Since this administration has treated workers well, we have no choice but to reciprocate through our votes. You can see thousands of workers and pensioners here today. We will deliver, and we mean it. We are multipliers,” Arapasopo said.
“This time around, we will not accept an inconclusive election. Organised Labour has said repeatedly that we will not accept any inconclusive election or the cancellation of votes in any polling unit.”
