NPFL Season Starts Strong With Abdulrahaman Leading The Charge

As the 2026–2027 season began on Friday, the Nigeria Football Federation named Dr. Ayo Abdulrahaman as the new Chief Operating Officer of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL).

The NFF made the announcement on Friday, the day the new NPFL season kicked off at Adamasingba Stadium in Ibadan with a major match between Shooting Stars and recently promoted Inter Lagos.

According to the federation, Abdulrahaman’s appointment went into effect right away.

His appointment came after the NFF issued an order on Thursday, August 27, directing all chief executive officers and board members of the various leagues, as well as chief operating officers who are not NFF employees, to resign.

The directive is a component of the federation’s continuous management and league administration reorganization.

On Thursday, the NFF also named Dr. Emmanuel Ikpeme as its acting general secretary.

Abdulrahaman’s appointment was confirmed by Ikpeme, who stated that it was done in accordance with the federation’s directive.

As clubs start their campaigns in the upcoming season, Abdulrahaman will now be in charge of the NPFL’s operational administration.

As the NPFL resumed play nationwide, Shooting Stars faced recently promoted Inter Lagos in the opening-day match in Ibadan.

Clubs will compete for the league title, continental qualifying spots, and survival as the season goes on.

The appointment was made the day after the NFF named Ikpeme as its acting general secretary, in accordance with the order for those in the secretariat and management of the federation who were impacted by the reorganization to resign.
