NCDC Reports Worsening Condition Of Ebola Patient In FCT

The Bundibugyo strain of Ebola that was discovered in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) is linked to a diplomat whose illness has progressed to “multi-organ failure,” according to the Nigeria Center for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC).

Bundibugyo virus disease (BVD), a type of viral hemorrhagic fever in humans, is caused by the rare and severe species Ebola Bundibugyo of the genus Orthoebolavirus.

In Uganda, it was initially found in 2007. Direct contact with contaminated materials or bodily fluids can spread the infection.

In addition to confirming a case of Ebola in the Federal Capital Territory on Tuesday, the federal government reported that it had located 44 close contacts to trace in order to stop the disease’s spread.

He said;

“She is currently in isolation and receiving medical care,” Pate said.

“The Federal Minister of Health and Social Welfare and NCDC are working closely with the FCT Health Services Secretariat and other relevant authorities to contain the infection and prevent further spread.

“Contact tracing has commenced with 44 close contacts identified presently, with public health teams identifying and monitoring people who may have been exposed, including healthcare workers, patients, caregivers and travel contacts.”

Olajumoke Babatunde, NCDC’s director of the public health laboratory service, stated at an emergency incident management meeting in Abuja on Wednesday that the Ebola case found in Nigeria is the Bundibugyo strain, which is responsible for a significant outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

The patient is suffering from multi-organ failure, Babatunde continued.

“We did three levels of tests, but all were molecular. The strain was Bundibugyo,” Babatunde said.

“This person is actually a diplomat,” another official said.

The official noted that the patient’s condition has deteriorated into “multi-organ failure”.

The key thing to watch is whether all contacts can be traced and monitored. If they are, the risk of further transmission can be reduced. People should remain alert, take precautions and follow public health guidance.

We are not trapped or locked up in these bones. No, no. We are free to change. And love changes us. And if we can love one another, we can break open the sky.

Power is of two kinds. One is obtained by the fear of punishment and the other by acts of love. Power based on love is a thousand times more effective and permanent then the one derived from fear of punishment." - Mahatma Gandh
