Mo Abudu Sets The Record Straight On Respect And Titles

Speaking about how younger people should address older or more senior people, media mogul and CEO of EbonyLife Mo Abudu stated that she does not tolerate being referred to by her first name.

During an interview with media personality Toke Makinwa on Toke Moments, Abudu clarified her stance, stating that her traditional upbringing influenced her opinions on respect and how people should treat those who are older than them.

She said;

“I am very traditional. I was brought up in Ondo by my grandmother. You can’t be calling me by my first name anyhow. I won’t take it.”

Her remarks coincide with a broader discussion in Nigeria regarding professional etiquette and whether or not younger people should address senior executives by their first names.

At a UBA Graduate Management Accelerated Program event, a trainee referred to the bank’s Group Chairman, Tony Elumelu, as “Tony,” which sparked a debate.

“If I was a man, she wouldn’t say I was a shark.”

It is essential for the younger generation to show respect to their elders by addressing them appropriately and refraining from calling them by their first names. Respecting elders is a fundamental value that fosters harmony, understanding, and mutual regard within any community.
