Mbah Pledges To Expand Youth Skills Programme Across Enugu

Governor Peter Mbah says Enugu will expand youth skills training to equip more young people with digital and practical skills.

Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to youth development, describing investment in young people as key to reducing poverty and boosting productivity.

Mbah spoke on Monday while touring a six-week digital training and skills acquisition programme organised by his Special Assistant on Youth Development and Mobilisation, Charles Edeh, in partnership with CUTECH Group.

Represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. ChidiebereOnyia, the governor said his administration was equipping young people with practical and digital skills for better opportunities.

“Youth development is a direct investment in the future of Enugu State,” he said, promising to expand the programme to accommodate more participants.

Earlier, Edeh said the initiative would form part of a wider youth development framework reaching young people across the state’s 17 local government areas.

“Youth development is not an expense; it is an investment, he said. “The programme is only one step in a much broader vision. We want to ensure that talent does not remain undiscovered simply because a young person comes from a rural community or lacks access to opportunity.

“Every young person in Enugu deserves a chance to dream, a chance to learn and a chance to succeed.”

The Managing Director of CUTECH Group, Collins Onu, said over 1,500 people applied for the programme, but only 200 were selected due to limited capacity.

He said the programme was part of the company’s corporate social responsibility efforts to equip young people with skills and knowledge for the future.

We are not trapped or locked up in these bones. No, no. We are free to change. And love changes us. And if we can love one another, we can break open the sky.

Power is of two kinds. One is obtained by the fear of punishment and the other by acts of love. Power based on love is a thousand times more effective and permanent then the one derived from fear of punishment." - Mahatma Gandh
