Colonel Michael Randrianirina, the president of Madagascar, was welcomed into the audience by President Bola Tinubu.
Tinubu met Randrianirina on Monday while he was in Nigeria at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
In October 2025, the Army colonel took office as president of Madagascar, a few days after former president Andry Rajoelina fled due to a military takeover.
Before declaring that the military had taken control following Rajoelina’s impeachment for desertion of duty, Randrianirina led the CAPSAT army unit that rebelled and joined anti-government demonstrators.
We warmly welcome President Randrianirina to Nigeria and wish him an enjoyable and fruitful stay. We look forward to strengthening our ties and exploring new opportunities for collaboration. May his visit be filled with meaningful engagements and memorable experiences.
