Kwara Handover: Rescued Woro Abductees Share Their Ordeal

Several children perished in the terrorists’ camp, according to the rescued victims of the Woro community abduction in Kaiama Local Government Area, who described the terrifying ordeals they went thru during their months-long captivity.

After being rescued by security forces, the survivors spoke on Friday in Ilorin during their formal handover to the Kwara State Government.

Ameerah Saliu, one of the victims, revealed that she helped 11 pregnant women give birth while they were in captivity, but only roughly half of the infants survived. Thirteen children perished in the camp due to the terrible conditions, she continued, while several young men eventually joined the terrorists and some young women were married off.

She claimed that there were twelve captives in the group, emphasizing that while none of the women had experienced sexual abuse, they had endured extreme malnutrition and hardship during their time in the camp.

Ameerah thanked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Kwara State Government, and security agencies for securing the victims’ rescue, saying they had nearly given up on ever being free.

One of the Woro Village Head’s wives, Hauwa Saliu, another survivor, supported Ameerah’s story by detailing the harsh circumstances they faced while in captivity.

Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq welcomed the victims and praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the security services for the successful rescue effort, calling it an example of the Federal Government’s dedication to saving lives and bringing harmony back to the impacted areas.

While 46 of the rescued survivors are presently undergoing medical treatment at Kwara State University, the governor reassured the victims of the government’s ongoing support, rehabilitation, and reintegration.
