Funke Akindele, a Nollywood actress and director, has stated that “Everybody Loves Jenifa” is the most costly movie she has ever made, citing the expense of building sets and transporting the actors and crew to Ghana.
In an interview with CNN International correspondent Larry Madowo, Akindele revealed the information while talking about her career as a filmmaker and the 2024 comedy-drama’s production process.
She clarified that a substantial amount of money was needed to film the project, especially for logistics and set building.
“Everybody Loves Jenifa is a very expensive film because we went to Ghana. We filmed in Ghana and Nigeria. We flew all the cast and crew to Ghana. We filmed in Safari Valley Resort. That is a very expensive place to film,” she said.
“I build my set by myself. I don’t go to people’s houses to shoot. I create my set myself. I would rent out a place, or buy a place and start constructing my set there.
I really love Funke Akindele. She’s a hardworking, confident woman, and I truly admire those qualities in her. I haven’t watched Everybody Loves Jenifa yet, but I intend to see what it’s all about. Kudos, Funke—we love you and are proud of all you’ve accomplished!
