Former Arise News journalist Constance Ikokwu has joined the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) National Campaign Council as its spokesperson ahead of the 2027 elections.

The party announced her appointment as part of a broader list of campaign officials. In the role, Ikokwu is expected to explain the NDC’s policies and priorities, represent the campaign in media engagements, and communicate the positions of its presidential ticket, Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso.

Ikokwu brings more than 20 years of experience across print, radio and television. Her journalism career includes serving as Washington, DC, bureau chief and deputy editor at Thisday Newspapers, as well as working as a political analyst and anchor at Arise News.

She holds a PhD in Journalism and Communications, with a research focus on the relationship between media and politics. She has also worked in strategic communications, advising former Finance Minister Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala and former Industry, Trade and Investment Minister Okechukwu Enelamah.

More recently, Ikokwu took part in the NDC’s nomination process for the House of Representatives seat representing Idemili North and South Federal Constituency in Anambra State.
Her appointment comes as the party develops its campaign organisation for the 2027 general elections.

Congratulations to Constance Ikokwu on her appointment. Her experience and communication skills will be valuable to the NDC campaign, and we wish her success in the role. We hope she will serve the party and its supporters with distinction.
