Despite the difficulties caused by his hectic football schedule, Lionel Messi has revealed that his father was determined to see him win the 2026 Princesa de Asturias Award for Sport.
The Princesa de Asturias Awards honor exceptional accomplishments in a variety of disciplines, such as international cooperation, sports, the arts, and science.
According to the former captain of Argentina, his father was especially thrilled about the honor and demanded that he travel to the event.
In a post on 𝕏 on Friday, football transfer expert Fabrizio Romano claims that Messi discussed his father’s response while considering the significance of the honor.
“My father was extremely excited about this award.
“We knew it would be difficult because of my match schedule, but he really insisted that we come, that I travel here to spend these days and receive the award,” Messi said.
The Inter Miami forward explained that the honour meant more to him than his achievements on the football pitch.
“This award goes beyond what you do on the pitch or what I’ve achieved throughout my career,” he said.
“Honestly, he was very happy about this recognition and that’s why I’m sure he’s enjoying it too.”
Congratulations to Lionel Messi on receiving the 2026 Princess of Asturias Award. This honor recognizes not only his extraordinary achievements on the field, but also the inspiration he has given to fans around the world. May this be another proud milestone in an already remarkable career.
